Arthur had real difficulty claiming Universal Credit because of a recent bereavement, lack of PC skills and internet access. The coronavirus restrictions also made him unable to make a claim either online, at the JobCentre Plus or by phone as the DWP phone line was not accessible in the first two weeks of lockdown. When Arthur did get through to the DWP, he was incorrectly told he couldn’t claim by phone. He then called our Help to Claim service and following intervention by our Adviser was connected to the DWP, and a successful non-digital claim was made. Arthur told our Adviser “you done me proud”.
