Volunteer stories

My name is Jackie, and I have been a volunteer here for just over 3 years.

In 2016, having been claiming Job Seekers for a few years, I was referred to a course for the ‘over 50’s’, by my adviser at the Job Centre, which was run by CAH.  The course ran for 6 weeks, 2 of those were work experience, which I did at CAH as admin/receptionist.  When the course finished, I was asked if I would consider staying on as a volunteer, and here I am.

I work here 3 days a week.  I have learned to do various things on the computer, that I never thought I would be capable of. The things I have gained from working here are confidence, being appreciated (which I never had in a job before), and a whole new social life.  I actually enjoy coming to work, and I never thought I would say that about any job.  But, I am very happy to do it.  These people, both volunteers and the handful of paid staff, work so hard to help those that need support, and it couldn’t run efficiently without the volunteers.  I am proud to be part of this dedicated team, and will continue to do so for as long as they want me.
